Touch, 2024, exhibited at Galleri Format, Malmö
200x100x30 cm
Stained plywood, digital prints with reactive ink on transparent silk and cotton, art glass, motion detector, fan
Touch is a continuation of Hilda Randulv’s previous work, In the Distance I Hear Surges (2021-2023), which examined the dynamic between presence and absence, influenced by her experiences growing up with epilepsy. In Touch, Randulv elaborates on absent communication. The artwork features two versions of the same portrait, layered to create a double exposure that obscures the subject. Encased in a box fitted with a motion detector and fan, the piece reacts to the viewer’s presence. This creates a momentary connection where the viewer briefly touches the portraits, though an obstacle remains between them. Upon stepping away, the fabric stills, returning the artwork to its previous state, restoring the barrier and reestablishing the separation.
